Celebrating the release of two new CDs: "The Another Ones" by Grant Beran and "Pictures of Poodles" by the Unknown Rockstar

Rory Storm and Mono-Polly have been working together since they both lived in Dunedin, playing as part of Rory Storm and the Invaders, and in other line ups. They are both interested in complementary strains of guitar use and abuse.

The Unknown Rockstar intends to play prepared guitar, clarinet and toys. He intends to have fun.

Little Skull is yet another NZ artist better known overseas than here. His limited edition seven inches generally sell like hotcakes, and the his recently released CDR compilation of these seven inches sold out within hours. I have no idea what he plans to do, but I'm excited about it anyhow.

Grant Beran's debut album, "The Another Ones", lives in a grainy scratchy world of vinyl and CD manipulation all of it's own.

The Unknown Rockstar's fifth album, "Pictures of Poodles" is an exploration further in the realms of echo and drone.

SpaceThing is a volunteer run shop open on Saturdays and Sundays, selling music, literature, art, and other objects of interest.

The Unknown Rockstar has released two new albums, Deep Earplug Music and Pickel.

Deep Earplug Music was recorded live at the first Deep Earplug Music in 2006, and is a guitar based drone and tone piece.

Pickel is a pair of contrasting live echo guitar pieces.

Unknown Rockstar is playing for a night of video art at the Engine Room.

From their press release: An exhibition for one night only at The Engine Room Gallery, Massey University. It will be an extravaganza of Multimedia, Installation and Performance art. Curated by RadCore, a collective of 3rd and 4th year Fine Arts students, and featuring artist's such as Brendon Philip, Erin Templeton, Aliki Boufis, Dirtroom Tomographic, Chris Cudby, William Hsu, Dave King and Trimasterbate.

Overdose Kunst have released their second Postmoderncore album, Incested by social machine. With more focus around their guitar work, but still with effects and samples featuring prominently, this is an interesting and welcome progression from their first Postmoderncore album, non-form material machine.

At extremely short notice, Zombie Prom Queen have been invited to play at The Pit, the bar attached to Bats Theatre. This is one of the last gigs at The Pit before Richie moves on to his new, better, bigger bar, so come on down and rock out with us.

Bends and Moans was recorded live at C.U.E. in Kobe, Japan. The performance took place on the 25th of November, 2005. The performers were 石上和也 (Kazuya Ishigami), 稲見 淳 (Sunao Inami) and Tangent.

Note that Tangent is not playing tomorrow at the Photospace.

Dave Black will be playing at the Photospace on the 2nd of April at 3pm. Other performers will be Tangent and Frey. Lots of electronic/computery madness by the looks of things.

I'm very happy to welcome Overdose Kunst to postmoderncore, and announce the release of their new album, non-form material machine. It's an electro-accoustic album that I consider to be often beautiful and sometimes unsettling.

Announcing the launch of a new website hosted by postmoderncore, http://janeallnatt.co.nz. This is the website of Jane Allnatt, a sculptor from Auckland, New Zealand. She creates amazing objects of art in wood and other materials.

Just noticed that video of Jin Sangtae, Choi Joonyong and Tangent performing Antler Juice is available on the Relay 03 webpage. Just click the link beside our names marked video. The rest of the night was fantastic also, so check out the other videos. There is music and video from recent Relays that have been put up that will also surely be worth checking out, so have a look around the Relay website.

The Rick Jensen Trio are having their last two gigs before Rick goes overseas. They'll be playing in Wellington, New Zealand. They're playing at Happy on the 22nd at 8pm, and at the Photospace with Jeff Henderson on the 26th at 3pm.

Two reviews of Antler Juice have been put online, including a very good review from The Wire magazine.

Antler Juice is postmoderncore's first CD release. It was recorded live at a gig with three experimental electronic artists, 진상태 (Jin Sangtae), 최준용 (Choi Joonyong) (South Korea), and Tangent (New Zealand). The packaging is hand made. The cover is Korean paper (Hanji).

Tangent will play at the venue C.U.E with two Japanese performers, 石上和也 (Kazuya Ishigami) and 稲見 淳 (Sunao Inami). If you happen to be in Japan, check out the map, or give us an email to find out where to go. If you're not, the gig may be on live streaming video at http://www.cavestudio.org/cue/live_from_far_east/broadcast/. Or the gig will possibly be released on postmoderncore.

The Unknown Rockstar has been invited to perform at Arena II, on the 12th of October. The Unknown Rockstar performs at 12PM Seoul time (GMT+9), 3PM New Zealand time (GMT+12), or check the Arena II playlist to find the time in your timezone. Tune in at the nomusic website, http://nomusic.org/.

Arena II is a 24 hour festival which goes from 0:00-23:59 GMT+0 on the 12th of October, with one performer each hour. It is organised by nomusic. It looks to be a good festival. The names I recognise on the playlist are Tapegerm Collective and Janek Schaefer. I'm sure the others will be well worth checking out also.

An EP from the Richie Rhinestone and The Insatiable Opium Cowboys, Hard Times has just been released. It has three songs of cowboy style rock music, from a recording session the cowboys did in 2004.

Tangent is playing with a bunch of mostly Korean artists at Relay 03 on Friday the 16th of September, in Seoul, Korea. It's at the iry cafe in the Hongik University area. There is a map showing the location of iry cafe on their website, but I had trouble getting there last time I went so email me if you want better directions.

it should be a pretty interesting gig; the format is quite unusual. several groups will play, and none of the performers know they will play with until the night. most of the performers are laptoppers, but some use other noise makers. Tangent will play using laptop and various accoustic noise makers.

Tangent should also be playing in Kobe, Japan in mid-November. More news to come. Also the second slab of sound podcast has been released, featuring Jeff Henderson, Evan Parker's Electro-Accoustic Ensemble, and the Peter Brotzmann Octet.

postmoderncore has started a podcast, the slab of sound, distributed by psurkit.net. The slab of sound presents different styles of music from the postmoderncore label each show, alongside other music in a similar vein.

The first podcast features postmoderncore artist Richard Whyte, as well as Alisdair Roberts, Kiss The Anus Of A Black Cat, and Nick Drake. Read about the show or download and listen to it.

also, I'm most of the way through moving the mp3s of the postmoderncore releases to archive.org. you can read and write reviews there, and find music from many other great labels and artists. however, there is more information on the postmoderncore site, and you can only buy CD-rs from here.

All postmoderncore albums are now under creative commons licenses. Although all albums were already available for download, now your rights with this music are specifically listed. salad bones is also under a creative commons license.

postmoderncore is now hosting another website, dadashopping.net. dadashopping is a website for free online publication of art and words. dadashopping is a site dedicated to bringing artists and audience together. starting out with 78 works from 24 artists in 19 genres, dadashopping will grow continously as the artists provide more works, and as new artists display their wares. coding for dadashopping is by Sam Stephens.

I have released a retrospective compilation to celebrate postmoderncore's fiftieth release, and fifth year as a label. The compilation is a great way to find out the wide variety of sounds, artists, and styles that postmoderncore offers. It is only available for download currently. It will be available for purchase soon, hopefully in a couple of weeks.

I have also set up a shopping cart for postmoderncore, to ease the buying of multiple albums from us. And unfortunately, I have had to put the prices of the albums up, because the US dollar has gone up substantially against the New Zealand dollar since I last set the prices.

dr shopper has decided to make full length mp3s of the whole salad bones album available for download, so go to the website now and check it out. It's a great CD of spoken word with music, produced by Wellington, New Zealand based poets and musicians.

postmoderncore has recently appeared on two websites. Firstly it is featured site of the month on the Oddio Overplay website. Oddio Overplay is a great website that links to free music of many sorts all over the internet. Secondly postmoderncore has just been mentioned on Metafilter, a website that collects links to interesting sites.

Recently the postmoderncore about page has been updated, with a better description of the label, it's origins, and it's objectives.

This is the first postmoderncore news for a while, because I have been very busy working in South Korea. I have just bought a computer, so now there should be more updates to postmoderncore, and some more releases in a couple of months.

91 Aro St is a space to provide an outlet for independent arts of any sort we can in Wellington, New Zealand. 91 Aro St currently has comics, tapes, CDs, books, films, paintings, photographs, pictures and glass work. It looks to promote, distribute and encourage all kinds of independent art.

There was a benefit sale last weekend. On Monday the 1st of November, 91 Aro St's first exhibition is opening. The exhibition is "headbones" with art by Trish Stephens, Smiley, and Sam Stephens. The opening will be between 5 and 7 pm. Afterwards the shop will be open for business Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 6pm.

All postmoderncore releases can be bought from 91 Aro St. We can sell them from there for NZ$10, due to no shipping costs. Thanks a million to Dean Brown for his help in preparing the covers for the CDs to sell from the shop.

This is the last set of releases before I go to Korea. There are ten new albums available. Two of these releases are by Jeff Henderson. Jeff is an integral part of the New Zealand improvised music scene. He is one of the true master saxophonists; the founder of important venues for Wellington music; he has played with many great musicians such as Evan Parker and Han Bennink. Now postmoderncore is releasing Jeffs first two solo albums, A and fuck you you bureaucratic fucks. Each of them is a recording of one of Jeffs live improvisations on baritone saxophone, and both of them are astounding pieces of music.

The other releases are: stark raving mad at the end of time, a mad lo-fi compilation; Richard Whyte's wireless, an album of accoustic folk/country; two new Rick Jensen Trio albums of further free jazz explorations; The Shambolics album drunk and mean at the cross bar, punk rock of japanese proportions; live at the photospace 20th august 2004, with robyn kenealy's beautiful songs, craig irie's poetry, and The Unknown Rockstar doing his thing; The Unknown Rockstar solo piano double CD fake ivory; and voodoo savage's accoustic tour de force with The Insatiable Opium Cowboys, hillbilly at heart.

a pair of mailing lists have been set up to for your convenience. one mailing list is to announce new releases on the postmoderncore label. the other is to announce live gigs that postmoderncore and it's associates are involved in (this list is probably of most use to locals who could actually attend said gigs).

You can now buy CD-Rs of all the music on the postmoderncore catalog, with jewel cases and high quality front and back covers. You can pay using your credit card, through Paypal. The standard price is US$13 per CD, including postage and packaging. The mp3s are still available for free download, and the cover art is still viewable in the cover gallery.

I've had some art works accepted for the Vent (4) group exhibition at the Thermostat Gallery in Palmerston North (in New Zealand). It's based around digital art work. The exhibition runs between 26th June and 15th July, with the opening on Sat the 26th June 5:30-7:30pm - come and say hi and eat and drink for free if you're in the area (Thermostat is on the 1st floor of 186-187 The Square)

Tangent Precipitate now having been retired, Tangent has been revived as a project floating loosely around experimental electronic musics... the new album, a pictorial history has now been put online.

The Unknown Rockstar has producted a first album, sound board, an album of beautiful, relatively sparse instrumental playing, on acoustic and electric guitar and on clarinet. The instrumental methods and modes developed through the Tangent Precipitate era are bought to a more focused conception of improvisation and sound under the guise of this new persona.

i've had the privilege to design and host the website for a CD compilation that has recently been released in Wellington, New Zealand - salad bones. it's a CD of spoken word with music. five poets have collaborated with five musicians, entrusting the musicians with open artistic license. the result is quite varied, a small slice into some scenes that are going on in this city. i've not come across anything quite like it.

Due to the privacy invasion side of the stolen art galleries, I have decided to take them down. Some have emailed me saying the galleries were a good thing because "Disabusing the audience of notions of privacy is a public service." While I do agree with this, I think I don't need the galleries themselves to educate, and the exhibition is too potentially harmful.

The crew at Press the Button have created a new piece, "A Rick Jensen Reverie" entirely from samples of the Rick Jensen Trio. It's an impressive transformation, a original piece that is quite reminiscent of the original performance but also completely different. Get it from the Sound page on the Press the Button website.

The second Rick Jensen Trio album, "Snowdrift" has been released. It was recorded live at Bodega, Wellington NZ on 29th April 2003, with the current regular trio line-up of Rick playing clarinet and alto sax, Sam playing bass, and Smiley playing drums.

Because of the amount of music we want to share on the website, we can no longer use the high quality 192kbps constant bit rate encoded mp3s. 128kpbs average bit rate appears to be the best space/quality trade off, and still high quality. But if you want the higher quality mp3s, download them now.

Rick Jensen is a free jazz saxophonist that Sam and Smiley have been playing bass and drums for in the Rick Jensen Trio. We take pleasure in presenting "age of illumination", recorded live at the Photospace, Wellington NZ in July 2003, with Rick playing clarinet and alto sax, Sam playing double bass, and Richard Whyte playing cello. We hope to see a lot of his work on the postmoderncore label in future.

The promised first Cyberphobe album has been released on the web. "during the year of my nervous breakdown" is music about a society turning away from meaning.

The Phallus album, "deepthroated", has been put on the postmoderncore catalogue and made available for download. Recorded from a live to air on Radio Massey five years ago, this Palmerston North trash/spazz rock album was originally released on Lizardmull Records, Palmerston's own legendary swamp label... we still have copies...

I should have been announcing the availability of new albums here, but due to a hiatus in my personal circumstances they will instead be being uploaded in another week or two. Apologies.

The long awaited "Free Speech For Sale" has now been released, featuring a track, "Hallo", from Postmoderncore's own Cyberphobe, as well as contributions from The Evolution Control Committee, Animals Within Animals, The Button, and other great sound artists. Much kudos to the Everyman, and all those who contributed tracks, time and money to this project. Check it out, it's something interesting and somewhat unique.

Cyberphobe has also promised me we'll get some more music on his page in the next week or two... geography makes getting material off him trickier than it used to be.

The second edition of the Stolen Art Gallery is now available for your perusal with a slideshow and a browse mode, in the same style of the first exhibition. There is a spectrum of images here, from the very mundane to ones that etch themselves on the surface of your brain.

Postmoderncore now has it's own domain, postmoderncore.com - update your links to the new location. The mp3s downloadable here are being switched to high quality, 192k bandwidth mp3s. In another month all the material on the label should be available from the site. And as all of this isn't free, we're now accepting donations to help keep the website going.

Due to a new hosting arrangement, shortly all the albums on postmoderncore will be available for direct download from this website - making downloading easy, dl manager friendly, and high speed. Also the "Free Speech for Sale" CD (featuring Cyberphobe) is finished, and the last of the art is just being done before the release is ready (as I understand). Also rumour has it an album by Cyberphobe may be coming out; and that the Stolen Art Gallery may have another set of art added to it. Keep watch for more news, music and surprises.

Lots of new releases from Tangent Precipitate over the last few months ranging over widely varying sound palettes, and an overdue excursion from Starcrusher brings drone, randomness, and power to fuck with your head, on "Afternoon and Evening". And the just uploaded Stolen Art Gallery is an exhibition of peoples digital photos filched off their computers using person to person file sharing.

The cover gallery is now online. This contains the cover art of the now 24 releases in the postmoderncore catalog. The whole of the Disturbed Bits series is now available for download, and the albums that come after these are in the process of being uploaded. Also, I'm in the process of getting covers printed so that I will soon have some CDs to swap/sell/etc.

After a long time, I've finally began some more work on the postmoderncore online presence. "Disturbed Bits #007" and "Disturbed Bits #008" are now available for download. "Disturbed Bits #009", "Disturbed Bits #010", "within the range of hearing" and "elevated states of consciousness" will be available from the Tangent Precipitate music page over the next while as the mp3s are uploaded. Also coming up should be some more material from Cyberphobe and some material from a new sampling project by Tangent Precipitate and Voodoo T Savage.

Cyberphobe is to be on a compilation "Free Speech For Sale", from some of the same people as "The Droplift Project". From a press release - "The theme of the CD is "text manipulation" made entirely from commercials. This is inspired from the record label Illegal Art, which released a CD called "Commercial Ad Hoc," with a similar theme, except the majority of the CD is compiled of recylced SOUNDS from commercials, not necessarily text, and the majority of the tracks do not project a message of any kind. I felt it would be cool to have a compilation which was along the same lines, but required the tracks consist of text-manipulation. After seeing Droplift, I then realized the appropriate means of distribution for such an animal....Droplift them! The causes behind this project are entirely the same...we need to get our art form heard and cannot do it legally if we sell it, so we must give it away."
